With the recovery of the tourism industry, the Deccan Odyssey train resumed service on September 21, 2023, after closure for 3 years. Not just this, the luxury train is soon planning to operate with an Electric engine.
Deccan Odyssey To Go Electric?
The luxury train Deccan Odyssey operated by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will soon be powered by an electric engine. The measure will help to cut carbon emissions and achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2030. After a four-year wait, the train debuted on September 21st. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21, the service was discontinued.
The MTDC is currently undertaking a survey of this prestigious train’s carbon footprint, and the results will be ready in a month. In the Pantry Car, the authorities are replacing LPG cylinders with induction cookers, according to an article by Financial Express.
The restored luxury train includes 21 coaches, with four deluxe cabins in each of the first ten coaches and two presidential suites in the remaining two coaches. Other coaches include two for the dining room, staff quarters, generator cars, and storage houses. The train also has one coach with a meeting centre, a health spa and a bar.

The New Deccan Odyssey
The luxury train Deccan Odyssey was developed in 2003. The Deccan Odyssey train was extremely popular from 2004 to 2020. The COVID-19 epidemic, on the other hand, temporarily ceased its operations. From the moment passengers step aboard the Deccan Odyssey, they are transported to an era of refined elegance and unmatched comfort.
The train has opulent cabins and suites are designed with meticulous attention to detail. It combines classic aesthetics with modern amenities.
For the years 2023-24, the Deccan Odyssey provides a range of scheduled tours. They will visit a variety of locations in Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This deluxe train’s onboard amenities are nothing short of remarkable, with intercom, WiFi, music systems, soft couches, plush beds, and air conditioning.
In addition, the Deccan Odyssey has taken a step towards responsible tourism by reducing plastic waste, installing fireproof sets in the canteen, using electric induction in the restaurant, and investigating the use of electric engines in the train. It’s part of an aim to minimise its carbon footprint, making train travel a more environmentally responsible option than flying.
