A family from Bengaluru’s Jayanagar 2nd Block had to experience a flight delay while they were about to catch the flight to Delhi followed by a flight to Istanbul. Nothing went according to their plans as the flight was more than 5 hours late.

According to a report by The Times of India, the scheduled time of the flight was 11:25 pm and was meant to take off from Bengaluru on 20 December 2019. Instead, the journey began at 4 am on the next day. Unfortunately, they failed to catch the flight from Delhi because of the delay and the ticket prices went all in vain. Well, not just this, they also lost a huge amount of money on hotel bookings.

Following this incident, IndiGo booked a stay in Delhi for the family and also took them to Istanbul. Unfortunately, this journey from Delhi also went in vain as they could not catch the flight to reach Tel Aviv.

With no more chances in hand, they booked tickets for Israel. They flew to their destination on Turkish Airlines. It seemed like bad luck was not leaving their back as they missed their hotel bookings due to the entire delay. Brokenheartedly, they came back to Bengaluru.

After the family landed in their city, they lodged a complaint against IndiGo and MakeMyTrip. They took these companies to court as they faced delays due to IndiGo and they used MakeMyTrip to book tickets for the Israeli vacation. They sent a legal notice on 11 September 2020. After the complaint, both the companies made an offer of ₹90,664 to the family but they did not agree to that. They demanded over ₹2 lakh.

Lawyers of IndiGo and MakeMyTrip made an argument stating that poor weather conditions were the reasons behind the flight delays. IndiGo’s attorney also added how the airline gave proper stay facilities and food following the delay. The verdict was announced on 16 May 2023, according to the TOI report. The consumer forum judges stated that the companies need to pay and compensate for the losses. They need to complete all these within 60 days.
