Delhi Airport Becomes India’s First To Connect 150 Destinations; Sets A New Benchmark In Global Connectivity

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has accomplished a historic feat by becoming the country’s first airport to offer connections to an astounding 150 destinations. On Sunday, Thai AirAsia X launched direct flights between Delhi and Bangkok-Don Mueang (DMK), marking the milestone. These flights are currently operated twice a week using Airbus A330 aircraft, and by mid-January 2025, they are expected to be conducted four times a week.

Over the years, Delhi Airport has expanded its network to become the leading aviation hub in India. Delhi is the preferred entry point for travellers, as it connects 88% of all long-haul destinations from India. Delhi also serves as the departure point for more than 56% of India’s weekly long-haul flights.  It demonstrates its dominance in the nation’s international aviation market.

An impressive 42% of all Indian long-haul travellers choose Delhi as their starting point, according to Zee News. The airport serves more than 4 million domestic travellers each year. It offers smooth connections to a variety of foreign locations.

According to Zee News, in recent years, the airport has added over 20 exclusive international destinations to its roster, including iconic cities such as Phnom Penh, Calgary, Montreal, Washington Dulles, and Tokyo Haneda. This growth highlights Delhi’s evolution into a super-connector hub, driven by Indian carriers’ introduction of wide-body aircraft.
