On Friday, an Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi made an emergency landing in Thailand after a bomb threat was received on board. According to the airport officials, after the emergency landing, all 156 passengers were safely deboarded, and a thorough security screening was carried out. The preliminary search confirmed that no bomb was found inside the flight.

According to Hindustan Times, a Delhi-bound Air India flight from Phuket, Thailand, was forced to make an emergency landing after a bomb threat was reported onboard. Flight AI 379 was carrying 156 passengers and departed from Phuket International Airport at 9:30 AM (local time). A passenger, reportedly, found the bomb threat note on the aircraft. The flight promptly made a loop around the Andaman Sea and returned to the Thai island, in accordance with emergency procedures.

The pilot made an emergency landing in Phuket and all the passengers were safely deboarded, in line with emergency plans. The incident comes just a day after the crash of an Air India flight in Ahmedabad shortly after take-off, in which more than 240 people were killed.

Threat Confirmed Hoax After Inspection

According to the preliminary search report, the bomb threat that prompted the Air India flight to make an emergency landing in Thailand was a hoax. The airport officials did a thorough search of the aircraft and found no bomb or traces of explosives on the flight. Reportedly, the passenger who found the bomb threat note on the aircraft is now being questioned by the airport authorities.

A media report shows that India’s aviation sector has been experiencing a surge in bomb threats. In the first 10 months of 2024, more than 1,000 hoax calls and messages were recorded, which is almost ten times the total number from 2023.
