Delhiites rejoice, as the wait is finally over! Monsoon’s first showers have finally blessed the city with some relief from the scorching heat. From the morning of July 4th, the city witnessed scattered rainfall in different parts of the city, causing a pleasant drop in the temperature.
According to reports, the city received traces of rainfall in parts of Delhi for 24 hours till 8:30 am on Thursday (July 4). Lodhi Road and Safdarjung towers recorded traces of rain while the Ridge observatory posted 2.4 mm of rain. According to IMD’s city forecast, the national capital will be generally cloudy and experience slight rain fall till July 8th.
Delhiites have finally let go of a sigh of relief and took on to social media to celebrate the onset of monsoon:
The rain was expected to hit the city on July 3rd, but after a day’s delay we can certainly say that better late than never. On Wednesday, the IMD had announced that Delhi will experience the first showers of monsoon within the next 48 hours and we are so glad they weren’t wrong.
While every year, Delhi gets it’s first rain by the end of June, this year the rain was late to the national capital by one whole week. While many parts of Delhi have still not received their share of rainfall for today, the situation isn’t that bad as the rainfall in the neighboring areas has collectively brought down Delhi’s temperature.
Every year during the monsoons, the Yamuna river gets flooded, displacing a lot of people living near the banks. This year the government has also come up with a plan to use the adversity to the benefit of the city in it’s battle with the ongoing water crisis. This year Delhi government will be using the extra water from Yamuna in their rainwater harvesting project, rather than simply letting it run off.
Looks like the chai-pakoda season is finally here for Dilliwale.
