The 14th National Street Food Festival, organised by the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Gate No. 14, on December 14 and 15.
All About The 14th National Street Food Festival
The festival showcases the varied and genuine delicacies of street food sellers from more than 25 states and union territories.
In addition to a Chai Chowk that serves tea samples from eight states, the festival will feature regional dishes including Kashmir’s Wazwan, Kerala’s Malabari Biryani, Gujarat’s Dabeli, Tripura’s Chicken Bharta, Bengal’s Chicken Kosha, Paya Soup, Bhakka, and more.
This festival will not be just about food but also a way to help the street food vendors. A special stall will be set up for the people or organisations who would like to financially contribute to these vendors. This financial support can also open new paths for street vendor families to prosper and inspire them. Based on an estimate, on over ₹60,000 is needed for a street food vendor to become a successful entrepreneur.
What More Is In Store For The Street Vendors?
The National Association of Street Vendors of India is encouraging street food vendors to participate by designating them as “NASVI Stars” and awarding them with unique badges. Through the implementation of zero-waste programmes and the usage of biodegradable cutlery, a tactic debuted last year, the festival will seek to advance sustainability.
The increasing importance of street food sellers in the food processing industry was emphasised by Arbind Singh, National Coordinator of NASVI, who said that they can become prosperous food businesses with government assistance, as reported by The Times of India.
This year, more than ten booths will be created to promote food processing, featuring processed meals from street food sellers in different states. This programme seeks to increase vendor trust and provide Delhi residents with a chance to sample their delectable goods.
