Delhi-Goa IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing At Mumbai Airport Due To Mid-Air Engine Failure

On Wednesday, a Delhi-Goa IndiGo flight made an emergency landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) due to a mid-air engine failure. The flight landed in Mumbai at 9:52 PM, and all passengers on board were safely deplaned.

The Goa-bound IndiGo flight from Delhi was carrying 191 people when the pilot requested an emergency landing in Mumbai due to an engine failure. According to The Hindu, Flight 6E 6271, an Airbus A320neo, was flying about 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar when the pilot identified a problem with one of its engines.

At around 9:32 PM, the pilot declared ‘PAN PAN PAN’, which is an urgent message indicating a non-life-threatening emergency. Some media reports suggest that the crew identified a malfunction in engine number 1 and requested an emergency landing at the Mumbai Airport.

Upon landing, all passengers and crew members were safely disembarked. IndiGo coordinated alternative onward travel for the passengers after that. According to the airline’s statement, the emergency landing of the Delhi-Goa flight was due to a “technical snag”.

Mumbai Airport Declared ‘Full Emergency’

The flight’s emergency landing in Mumbai prompted a ‘full emergency’ at the airport. A CSMIA spokesperson said, “Following the diversion of a Delhi-Goa flight due to a technical snag, a full emergency was declared at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai at 21:35 hours on 16 July 2025. The flight landed safely at 21:52 hours. The full emergency status was withdrawn at 21:57 hours.”

The statement further mentioned that the emergency landing had “no impact on overall airport operations.” A brief emergency was declared by standard protocols. Reports suggest that firefighting units and an ambulance were placed on standby near the runway and escorted the plane after it landed.

The airline has yet to specify the nature of the snag that occurred in the aircraft.
