The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will begin the construction of a railway project between Janakpuri West and RK Ashram as part of Phase 4 of DMRC. The construction will require the felling or transplantation of nearly 3000 trees of the North Forest Division and South Forest Division by the Delhi Metro. DMRC has received permission from the Forest Department for the same. Saplings will be planted in different parts of the capital to compensate for the uprooting.

New Saplings Will Be Planted To Compensate For The Loss
DMRC will remove 2,940 trees from the North Forest division to expand its railway route. Out of these, 1,963 will be re-planted near Outer Ring Road and at a Haiderpur park. Also, authorities will plant around 50,000 saplings on the Yamuna floodplains, on the Geeta Colony Bridge-Shantivan Drain route and on the ITO bridge-NH-24 route to compensate for the loss. DMRC has received a nod for removing 450 trees from the South Forest division. Authorities will transplant 299 trees among them.

The New Project Will Have 22 Stations
The new project will run for a length of 29.26 kilometres. It will have 22 stations. New railway lines will come up between Janakpuri West and Mukarba Chowk and between Mukarba Chowk and Derawal Nagar. Another portion will come up between Khanpur and Sangam Vihar. Metro is the lifeline of Delhi which eases travel of hundreds of city commuters daily. While the new project requires clearance of a part of the city’s forest, DMRC is making sure to put back whatever it is taking from nature.
