In preparation for the upcoming Delhi Assembly Election on February 5, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced special operational hours to facilitate the election staff and officials deployed across the city. These special operational measures will also be applied on the vote counting day, February 8.
Delhi Metro To Start Early Service On Election Day
According to NDTV, Delhi Metro will start its operation on all lines from their terminal stations at 4 AM on February 5 and 8, voting and counting day. The trains will run with a frequency of 30 minutes on all the lines till 6 AM. Post that, regular metro train services will run throughout the day. These special measures have been put in place for election staff and officials.
Furthermore, DMRC took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce, “In addition, to facilitate the polling officials/staff returning late after election duty, the last metro service on all lines will be also extended on the intervening night of 5th/6th February 2025.”
They shared the linewise time extensions on each route in the post as well. For the Red Line, the time has been extended from 11 PM to 12 PM. On Yellow Line’s sector from Millennium City Centre Gurugram to Samaypur Baldi, the time has been extended from 11 PM to 11:30 PM, and from 11 PM to 11:45 PM on Samaypur Baldi to Millennium City Centre Gurugram route. What’s Open And What’s Not On Polling Day
To encourage maximum voter participation, the Delhi government has announced a public holiday on February 5. While several government and private offices across the city will remain closed, essential services like the Delhi Metro and bus services will operate. Schools, colleges, and other educational institutions will remain closed in the city as well.
Furthermore, as per the Election Commission’s guidelines, liquor stores and licensed establishments will remain closed from 6 PM on February 3 to 6 on February 5. Hospitals, pharmacies, grocery stores, restaurants, and most retail and food businesses are expected to remain open as well.
Please keep all this information in mind while planning your day on February 5.
