The Delhi section of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway is set to open to motorists on November 12, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the infrastructure project. According to Bidhuri’s statement cited in a recent Times Of India or TOI article, the inauguration of this motorway and its bridges will transform Mathura Road. It will also eliminate the chronic traffic congestion that has long plagued the area. The elevated corridor’s route takes it through some of Delhi’s most densely populated areas.

These include Yamuna Khadar, Okhla Vihar and Batla House, running parallel to the Yamuna riverbank. Engineers have constructed the descending ramp near Maharani Bagh, with the route crossing the thoroughfare near the Ashram entrance to the DND flyover.

According to Bidhuri, the ambitious infrastructure projects required an investment of ₹5,500 crore. The new route will serve as a vital link for motorists travelling towards Faridabad, Palwal and Sohna.

Bidhuri also went on to state that this wasn’t merely an alternative route — it represented a permanent solution to the severe traffic congestion that has historically affected Mathura Road. “Currently, the journey from Maharani Bagh to Sohna takes approximately two and a half hours. Once the bridges and motorway become operational, this same journey will take just 25 minutes.”

The opening of this stretch is expected to bring immediate relief to thousands of daily commuters who currently face lengthy delays on Mathura Road. The new infrastructure will not only improve journey times but also contribute to reduced fuel consumption and lower vehicle emissions by eliminating the stop-start traffic patterns typical of congested routes.

Local residents and businesses along the corridor are anticipating the positive impact of improved connectivity, while transport analysts suggest that the new route could significantly alter traffic patterns across South Delhi, potentially benefiting areas beyond the immediate vicinity of the expressway.
