Delhi Reports Third Monkeypox Case; Here Are The Precautions You Should Follow

Delhi has reported another Monkeypox case recently and this is the third one to be reported from the national capital. A 31-year-old Nigerian man has been admitted to Delhi’s Lok Nayak Hospital after he tested positive for monkeypox on Tuesday. According to reports from the Union health ministry, the patient does not have any foreign travel history.
Keeping this in mind, the Delhi government on Tuesday instructed three private hospitals to arrange monkeypox isolation wards for confirmed and suspected cases. With Delhi’s three monkeypox cases now, a total of eight cases have been reported in India so far. Read on to know how the Delhi government plans to tackle the situation with a third reported monkeypox case.

Third Monkeypox Case In Delhi

According to Suresh Kumar, MD, LNJP Hospital, Delhi, the third monkeypox case patient in Delhi had a history of fever, skin eruption & rashes on different parts of the body. He has now been kept in an isolation facility and a team of experts is taking care of him. Apart from this, the New Indian Express has reported that one more suspected case has also been admitted to the hospital. The woman is of African origin as well and her samples have been sent to NIV- Pune for tests, according to doctors.

Instructions By The Delhi Government

Delhi government has instructed three private hospitals to build isolation rooms for monkeypox cases. The hospitals will also be needed to reserve five rooms for confirmed Monkeypox cases and five more for suspected cases. Kailash Deepak Hospital, MD City Hospital, and Batra Hospital will reserve 10 beds each (five for confirmed and five for suspected) to manage the isolation of monkeypox cases.

Precautions To Follow

Along with Swollen lymph nodes, chills, and exhaustion, the most common monkeypox symptom is a rash that looks like pimples or blisters. Any monkeypox case patient will have that. And it’s better you stay away from people with rash issues these days. That’s the most important precautionary measure you can follow. Also if you experience any of the mentioned symptoms, you should immediately consult the nearest health center. Apart from this, it’s better to avoid contact with any materials, such as bedding, that have been in contact with a sick person. Practice good hand hygiene after contact with infected animals or humans. For example, washing your hands with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when caring for any monkeypox case patient.
