As per Delhi’s Environment Department, the main aim of hosting this e-vehicle parade is to promote EV usage in Delhi. The rally is also strategically being hosted ahead of peak pollution months in the city. According to the Business Standard report, the authorities hope that switching to EVs will ensure less vehicular pollution in Delhi. Back in August 2020, the Delhi government introduced an EV Policy offering subsidies for EV buyers. They had set a target for one in every four new vehicles registered in the capital to be electric by 2024, the report suggested.

As per Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai, they’re focussing on taking steps that will help reduce pollution in the capital, especially ahead of the winter season. They have also worked out ‘The Winter Action Plan’ that will be launched on September 25. This plan hopes to reduce pollution levels in Delhi.
