When it comes to the question of which is the most unsafe city in India, Delhi often gets a bad reputation. Many people even consider Mumbai safer compared to the national capital. But a recent post on Reddit, where a girl shared her horrible auto rickshaw experience in Mumbai, has left us with a question: Which place is actually safe for a girl living in India?

Redditor @MissPhysicist19, described her auto ride experience in Mumbai. As per her post, she’s a 20-year-old woman from Delhi who moved to Mumbai just two weeks ago for an internship. One day, she was walking back home from work, just 2 km away, but decided to take an auto-rickshaw midway to save time. Just a few metres into the ride, a random man, possibly a friend of the ‘autowala’, suddenly got into the rickshaw and started asking intrusive questions like, “Naam kya hai aapka?” (What’s your name?) and “Kya karti ho?” (What do you do?). The girl lied and gave him a fake name to avoid sharing her real one.

But what happened next shook her completely. The man, according to the post, started poking her waist and asked for her contact number. He did this several times, making her extremely uncomfortable. She snapped at last and yelled, “Nahi dena hai number” (I don’t want to share my number). After this, the two men told her not to be scared and offered to stop and drop her there. She agreed and got off the rickshaw.

The Incident Left The Girl Shaken And Scared

In her post, the girl shared how scared she was and how her legs were shaking. She immediately called her mother and informed her about what had happened. She also feared that the men could have attempted to rob her, as she was wearing a diamond ring and pendant at that time. The girl also added in her Reddit post that people often call Delhi unsafe, but she’s never faced anything like this there. Yet in just two weeks in Mumbai, she faced harassment in an auto in broad daylight. She also added that she was groped in a Mumbai local train while travelling with her mother.

Netizens React With Rage On Reddit

Many netizens flooded the comment section with their advice. One user commented, “I’m not judging, but some areas in Mumbai are not safe for women, especially at night, especially alone” Another advised her to report the matter to the police. Someone else added, “I genuinely hope you’re doing at least a bit alright, don’t be scared of shouting, screaming next time, if any of this kinda situation even occurs in a tiny bit. PLEASE always immediately go to the police station, or with someone there to file a complaint”.
