Delhi Rain: IndiGo, Air India & Other Airlines Issue Travel Advisories As Incessant Downpour Disrupts Air Travel

After long weeks of hot and dry conditions, Delhi-NCR finally got some respite as heavy rains lashed over the region on Tuesday. While the rainfall was predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it caused disruptions for air travellers, prompting airlines to issue an advisory. Passengers flying to or from the city have been urged to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Heavy & Sudden Rainfall In Capital And Surrounding Areas

While the rains brought much-needed respite from humid conditions for residents of Delhi-NCR, they also caused waterlogging and traffic snarls across the capital region. As per IMD, the rainfall is tied to a “complex interplay of weather systems currently active over western and northern India.”

India Today reports that a well-marked low-pressure area over the Gulf of Kutch is significantly influencing Delhi’s weather conditions. The weather change, combined with the festive rush, created a double blow for people in the region. Many were stuck in traffic jams on their way to their destinations, while the downpour is also likely to dampen the festive spirit across Delhi-NCR.

Airlines Issue Travel Advisories Amid Incessant Rains In Delhi

With incessant rainfall in Delhi, airlines like Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air have issued travel advisories for their passengers. They took to social media platforms like X to advise passengers travelling to and from Delhi to check their flight status following the heavy showers.

Air India took to X and said, “Heavy rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today. Please check your flight status on the website before heading to the airport and allow extra time for your journey due to possible slow-moving traffic.”

“Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,” SpiceJet announced on social media.

On X, Akasa Air posted, “Due to heavy rainfall in certain parts of Delhi, we anticipate slow-moving traffic and congestion on roads leading to the airport. To ensure a seamless travel experience, we request that you plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight. Please check your flight status online. We realise that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your understanding.”
