Delhi is making the headlines for its Air Quality Index yet again. After a gap of some time, the air quality has changed for worse significantly and most areas of the national capital are witnessing the AQI increasing more than 400. Though things were changing to some extent, credit goes to the weather change, now air pollution is seeing a rise yet again with a dip in quality. Here’s all you need to know about the current updates of AQI in different places in Delhi.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index Deteriorated Once Again
The AQI of Delhi has worsened to some extent recently and it has now entered into the severe category. The Central Pollution Control Board revealed data about the air quality of different areas of the national capital at 6 AM, starting from Ashok Vihar to Dwarka.
- Dwarka’s AQI was 402.
- AQI of Ashok Vihar was last seen at 405.
- Jahangirpuri reported 411 as its AQI.
- Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 412.
The air quality index saw this change about 2 days after the Commission for Air Quality Management lifted the GRAP-3. Though GRAP-3 has been lifted as of now, the government is taking steps to implement GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 properly. Gopal Rai, Delhi’s Environment Minister, talked about the lift of GRAP-3 and implementation of GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 recently. He also shared some details about the change in air quality in the past couple of days and more.
Air pollution in Delhi decreased to some extent because of the change in weather, shared the environment minister. Along with lifting GRAP-3 restrictions from the national capital, several other bans have been lifted as well. The concerned authorities have now removed the ban from vehicles running on BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel, and construction demolition procedures. Gopal Rai further added that GRAP-3 is implemented in a place where it records an air quality index of 400. The imposition of GRAP-3 was on the national capital even after the AQI was lower than the mentioned one. Post Diwali celebrations, the air quality was changing and hence the implementation continued.

How Can Weather Impact Delhi’s AQI?
Air pollution and quality are also sometimes dependent on weather and how it changes over time. The environment minister recently talked about how there are chances for the air quality index to increase if there is a decrease in the speed of the wind. And for this risky probability of AQI worsening, it is crucial to implement GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 strictly in all places.
Different departments are working in different areas of the city to put efforts and bring the worsening air pollution under control. Hundreds of teams of all departments have been assigned with definite roles to take care of. Teams are working at 13 hot spots and 60 mobile smog guns, according to a report by Times Now News. Teams are taking steps for water sprinkling, seeing the construction areas, dust contolling, and more in different places
