The Delhi Jal Board on Thursday informed that the water supply in certain parts of Delhi will be affected. This is due to a steep depletion in the levels of water at the Wazirabad pond. The reason behind operations have halted in Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla water treatment plants are due to Haryana’s reduction of the release of raw water in the Yamuna river.
Water Supply To Remain Less Until Water Levels Restore
The Delhi Jal Board also informed that the water supply will be affected as long as the water levels in the Wazirabad pond do not return to normal. The Chandrawal, Wazirabad and Okhla water treatment plants have a capacity of 90, 135 and 20 million gallons per day (MGD) respectively.
The entire city of Delhi requires around 1200 MGD while the Delhi Jal Board supplies up to 950 MGD.

Along with the above areas, Prahladpur, Ramleela Ground, Delhi gate, Subhash Park, Model Town, Gulabi Bagh, Punjabi Bagh, Jahangirpuri, Moolchand, South Extension, Greater Kailash, Burari, parts of Cantonment areas and South Delhi will also face water supply shortage.

How Much Does Haryana Supply To The Water Plants?
Haryana supplies around 610 MGD to Delhi through two canals – CLC (368 MGD), DSB (177) and the Yamuna (65 MGD). Apart from these, Delhi also gets around 253 MGD from Uttar Pradesh and the rest 90 MGD is drawn from wells installed around the city.
