Dharoi Dam To Be Gujarat’s Next Tourism Hub After Statue Of Unity; Will Have Water Park, Amphitheatre & More

Like the Statue of Unity, changed the tourism game for Gujarat, the state now gears up to explore the tourism potential of North Gujarat. Dharoi Dam, a gravity dam nestled on the Sabarmati River in the Mehsana district of Gujarat will be transformed into a world-class sustainable tourism destination. From a water park to a sports arena, read on to know what you can expect in this emerging tourism destination.

Dharoi Dam In Gujarat To Be Developed As World-Class Destination

As per a report by Hindustan Times, the Dharoi Dam arena in North Gujarat will get major tourism boost thanks to upcoming developments. The state government has launched a plethora of projects to develop this dam as a central tourism hub. It will link prominent tourism sites like Rani Ki Vav, Ambaji, Taranga and Vadnagar, all located within a 90km radius.

Built in 1978, the Dharoi Dam was constructed for irrigation, flood control and irrigation purposes. This tourism project will be executed at an estimated cost of 1100 crore in three phases. Visitors can expect a series of enthralling projects for entertainment and recreation. This includes a stunning Adventure Water Sports Arena and a River Edge Development Leisure Show Infrastructure. Also in the works are a series of parks like Naad Brahm Upavan and Panchatatva Park.

Water Park, Amphitheatre, Sports Arena & More

A gorgeous amphitheatre will also be constructed apart from the facilities, such as a Water Experience Park and a visitor centre. Hasrat Jasmine, District Development Officer of Mehsana stated to Hindustan Times that the government has a long-term vision to develop North Gujarat into a major tourism circuit with Dharoi as its heart.

Furthermore, she added that spiritual sites like Hatkeshwar Temple, Vadnagar and Ambaji will serve as peripheral points. The government expects this cultural arena to bring in a significant amount of revenue. It will take two years for this project to see the light of day. Currently, 80 per cent of the land acquisition is complete. A tourist from Gandhinagar, Tejinderpal Singh expressed his excitement about the project.

He said to Hindustan Times that it would be bigger than the Statue of Unity with world-class facilities like seaplanes. Locals are also optimistic as it will generate jobs and put their village on the global map/
