Diljit Dosanjh Talks About His Days In His Pind, Dosanjh Kalan

Diljit Dosanjh, a true Punjabi, is close to his roots and fondly talks about his childhood days in his hometown in Punjab. He recalled some of his childhood memories from the of days in his pind, Dosanjh Kalan, on this episode of Sunday Brunch with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani. Diljit Dosanjh’s Childhood Days In His Dosanjh Kalan Pind


We began the interview by talking about Diljit’s childhood days while focusing on how rooted he is in his culture and hometown. The Punjabi word ‘pind’ translates to village and he shared with us that his pind was Dosanjh Kalan. He resided in Dosanjh Kalan for 10 years of his life before shifting to city life in Ludhiana, Punjab.

Reminiscing about those childhood memories of Dosanjh Kalan, he elaborated that those precious 10 years were spent playing exciting childhood games like rasoi khel with his friends and cousins. He also has incredible memories of celebrating Diwali, his favourite festival, in his pind.

He revealed that Diwali was that one festival which was grandly celebrated by his family. Hence, he had happy memories of this festival.

Special Food Memories From His Hometown

Continuing on the topic of Diljit’s childhood hometown memories, he revealed to us that his pind is known for its pakode and barfi! He would relish plates of pakode and barfi whenever he wished to. He mentioned that it was not a lot of items but sometimes residents of Dosanjh Kalan would enjoy mathri and samosa as well.

Diljit made a point to highlight that the locals only relished rasgulla during celebratory events like weddings. He said, “Rasgulla toh bohot rare hota tha, jab kisi ki shaadi hoti thi tab.” Diljit added that weddings had a proper menu of serving guests with delicious banana chutney paired with samosas. The banana chutney took Kamiya by surprise as she never had a chance to taste the sweetness of a banana chutney.
