October begins the peak holiday season in India. With Navaratri, Durga Puja, and Diwali falling in October and November, the end quarter of the year witnesses a major spike in tourist footfall around the country. As the festivities are starting to knock at the door, travel enthusiasts are getting excited to book tickets, plan itineraries, and take off. In between the major rise in demand for air tickets, the costs are exponentially increasing as well.
Diwali Week Records A Surge In Airfare
Every year, lakhs of people make travel plans to explore new destinations at this time of year. Not just holidays, but students and professionals living outside also return to homes during Diwali. Unfortunately, the extreme surge in flight ticket prices is turning out to be a major concern for everyone. Airfares are seeing a record jump of about 2 to 4 times, according to a report by dailyO. The peak festive week starting from 10 November till 16 November is witnessing such major surge in ticket costs on most travelled domestic air routes and even international journeys as well.

The comparison of ticket prices in the next few days with the Diwali festival week shows a significant difference. Though no exact percentage of the skyrocket in airfare has been specified, it seems like passengers will need to pay way more than double and thrice to book tickets for Diwali.
Here’s Why The Airfare Is Booming During This Time
Both domestic and overseas flights are seeing the cost surge and there are some specific reasons responsible for this change. The humongous demand to book short-haul and long-haul flights is a major driving force in boosting the airfare of different airlines. The only way to deal with the demand and provide tickets as much as possible is by increasing the flight capacity. Unfortunately, a couple of airlines faced troubles in operating flights this year. With all these factors coming together, the prices of tickets are seeing a crazy surge.
Tickets to popular destinations, metro cities, smaller routes, and overseas are recording a surge in fares at least twice the present costs.
