Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent stopover in Cyprus on his way to the G7 Summit in Canada has brought this Mediterranean gem into the spotlight. While the diplomatic ties are strengthening, many Indian travellers are eyeing Cyprus for its coastal beauty, cultural richness, and easy visa process. But with Cyprus being part of the European Union yet outside the Schengen Area, Indian passport holders often ask, ‘Can you enter Cyprus with a Schengen visa?’
Cyprus Is In The EU, But Not In Schengen
Cyprus is an island country in the eastern Mediterranean, politically aligned with the European Union. However, as noted by NDTV, it is not part of the Schengen Zone. This means Schengen visa rules do not automatically apply to Cyprus.
Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 and is actively working towards full Schengen membership, expected by 2026. Until then, it remains outside the Schengen Agreement and therefore has its own entry rules for travellers, including Indians.

Do You Need A Schengen Visa To Visit Cyprus?
The short answer is no. According to NDTV, Indian travellers can visit Cyprus without holding a Schengen visa. They can apply directly for a Cyprus short-stay visa (Category C) through authorised services like VFS Global. This visa permits a stay of up to 90 days in any 180 days. However, it is valid only for Cyprus and not for Schengen countries.
If you already hold a valid double- or multiple-entry Schengen visa, then you’re in luck. As per NDTV, Cyprus allows Indian travellers to enter using this visa, as long as it remains valid for the full duration of the stay. But single-entry Schengen visas will not be accepted for this purpose.

Travel Tips For Indian Tourists
There are no direct flights from India to Cyprus, but one-stop options are available via Dubai or Abu Dhabi. You can fly into Larnaca, which is well-connected and serves as a gateway to the rest of the island.
The best time to visit is from May to June or September to October, when the weather is sunny and the crowds are thinner. Cyprus has also hosted shoots for Bollywood films like Race 2 and Teri Meri Kahani, adding to its allure for Indian travellers.
Cyprus offers Indian tourists a chance to experience European charm without the hassle of Schengen bureaucracy. Whether you apply directly for a Cyprus visa or hold a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, this island nation welcomes you with open arms and stunning beaches
