Domino’s To Compensate Customer With ₹1512 For Charging ₹12 For Single Bag

Domino's

Have you ever gone to a store and didn’t ask for an extra carry bag, only to find it included in your final bill? Many times, shoppers are required to pay an additional ₹10 to ₹15 for carry bags, even if they do not request them. While most customers dismiss the issue, a man from Chandigarh filed a complaint after Domino’s charged him an extra ₹12 for a carry bag. In addition, Domino’s has been ordered to pay a penalty of ₹1512.

Domino’s Slapped With ₹1512 For Overcharging From Customer

Paras Sharma alleged that he went to the Domino’s outlet at Chandigarh’s Sector 15 on May 29, 2019. He had ordered a Gold Corn Pizza and a sachet. His bill was ₹79.75. Soon after, he realised that Domino’s charged him ₹12 additional for a carry bag in a separate invoice, even when he didn’t ask for one. Reportedly, he had asked at the billing counter to return the money charged for the carry bag. When they refused to give back the amount, he filed the complaint. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Chandigarh has ordered Domino’s to pay the penalty amount to Sharma.

Here’s What The Company Had To Say

Domino’s, however, opposed the claims in a written reply, calling the allegation ‘false’ and ‘vexatious’. Sharma had ordered the paper bag, according to the company, and thus was charged for it. The company even added that the billing counter personnel had asked the customer if he wanted the paper bag, which he confirmed, and thus it was included in the bill. After hearing both sides of the story, the Commission determined that the seller must deliver the goods in their entirety. It sided with Sharma and stated that it was on record that the pizza outlet had charged an additional ₹12 for the carry bag, and that Domino’s India clearly constituted unjust trade practice.
