The shortage of cash has become a common issue amid the COVID-19 induced lockdown surfacing nationwide. Also, most small-scale vendors and shop owners of essential items are refusing to accept cashless transactions in this situation. Considering the plight, the administration in Chandigarh has introduced a one-of-its-kind facility – ATM on Wheels.
ATM At Doorstep
As stepping out and going to the ATM has now become an issue, the Chandigarh administration is making the ATM machines reach the households. The machines have been installed in a van and have already served more than 200 people in the city. Also, people are withdrawing cash only as per the need, so that there is enough money left in the machine for others. This movable ATM facility is a boon, especially for the ones, who do not have ATM booths in the vicinity of their residences.

The machines and the van are thoroughly sanitized before being put out on the road for the services. Apart from that, the van operators are ensuring that every individual sanitises his hands before entry and exit from the ATM. Also, the ATM counter is one of those places where public crowding is quite a common scenario. However, people waiting outside these moving ATMs are maintaining a gap of at least one metre among them to comply with the norms of social distancing.

The number of coronavirus cases in India has surpassed 1000, touching a count of about 1119 today morning. The doctors are constantly making dire efforts to eradicate the virus as early as possible. The little that we can do for the cause is to stay indoors and maintain a hygienic regime. This step by the Chandigarh administration to ease the flow of cash into households at the hour of need is really laudable. We anticipate that in the wake of the pandemic, other states take up similar initiatives too.
