Abra is the most convenient and budget-friendly mode of transportation in Dubai. Can you imagine travelling for Dhs1 in the city of glam, Dubai? So here’s a recent development regarding Dubai’s abra station. Four Abra stations in Dubai Creek are undergoing renovation and here’s all about it.

Dubai Abra Stations Undergo Renovation

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has breathed new life into the traditional abra stations along Dubai Creek. It’s ushering in increased capacity and improved facilities. Notably, the Bur Dubai Station has seen its capacity surge by an impressive 33 per cent. These abra stations are pivotal in aiding the movement of people between Deira and Bur Dubai. The traditional ride accommodates approximately 20 passengers within its compact motorized water taxis.

The overarching objective of this revitalisation project was to elevate the abra riding experience. This will further elevate security and safety measures at marine transport stations catering to around 14 million riders annually. Further, it aimed to align with the Dubai Universal Design Code for People of Determination. This will substantially enhance the capacity of the Bur Dubai Station by one-third.

Better Facilities & Modern Upgrade

The meticulous restoration of the Bur Dubai model station masterfully balanced the preservation of its historical and cultural essence. Along with that feature, it has integrated contemporary amenities. A sheltered outdoor space was thoughtfully crafted, while retail outlets were introduced to cater to abra riders and visitors alike. Technological systems at the station received a modern upgrade, ushering in enhanced efficiency.

Moreover, the scope of the project extended to illuminating stations and marinas. This brings in heightened visibility and security. The RTA embarked on the transformation of the Deira Old Souq station. The plans are laid out for the redevelopment of the Old Dubai Souq and Al Sabkha stations in the last quarter of 2024.

This ambitious redevelopment initiative harmoniously aligns with RTA’s comprehensive master plan. It’s dedicated to the comprehensive transformation of Dubai’s marine transport systems. The plan focuses on four pivotal stations: the Bur Dubai Model Station, Deira Old Souq Station, Dubai Old Souq Station, and Sabkha Station. This revitalization endeavour will refresh the experiences of those who frequently commute through the scenic Dubai Creek route.
