Dubai has recently unveiled plans to introduce two new Salik road toll gates ,marking a strategic initiative to revolutionize traffic management in the city. Expected to be operational by November, these gates are strategically positioned at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and in Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, targeting key locations identified through meticulous traffic studies. The goal is to significantly alleviate congestion and enhance overall traffic distribution.
Authority’s Vision For Congestion Reduction
Directed by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Salik Company, the operator of the emirate’s toll gates, has been tasked with establishing these new gates. The primary objective is to cut congestion and elevate traffic management standards. The authority anticipates a substantial 12 to 15 per cent reduction in traffic congestion at the Business Bay gate and a 15 per cent reduction at the Al Safa South gate.
By November, these two additional toll gates will join the operational network, expanding Salik’s total toll gate count in Dubai from eight to ten. Existing toll gates are strategically located in Al Barsha, Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Mamzar South, Al Mamzar North, Al Safa, Airport Tunnel, and Jebel Ali.
Strategic Locations For Enhanced Traffic Flow
The new toll gates will be strategically placed at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and in Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road. Also, specifically between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street. Carefully chosen through extensive traffic studies, these locations are expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve overall traffic distribution.
Efficient Toll Collection
Efficiency is a key focus in toll collection. The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology automatically deducts a toll fee of Dh4. It charges the motorist’s prepaid toll account as the vehicle passes through a Salik toll gate. This streamlined toll collection system aims to contribute to a smoother flow of traffic.

Anticipated Impact On Traffic Distribution
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) envisions substantial improvements in traffic distribution and a significant reduction in congestion.
The Business Bay Crossing gate will shortly enhance traffic flow on Al Khail Road. Consequently, it will reduce traffic volume on Al Rabat Street. Moreover, it will redirect traffic towards Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges and Ras Al Khor Street.
Similarly, the Al Safa South gate will optimize traffic flow on the Financial Centre, First Al Khail, and Al Asayel streets. This strategic move aims to improve overall traffic distribution and alleviate congestion in key areas.
In conclusion, Dubai’s proactive approach to traffic management showcases a commitment to enhancing the city’s infrastructure. Also, it ensures a smoother driving experience for all motorists. With the addition of these two new Salik toll gates, will achieve the goal of efficient traffic distribution.
