It’s no secret that the Dubai RTA is always working around the clock to ensure that people can have a seamless travel experience. Whether it’s with the help of public transportation or through the building of roads, the authority is always trying to ensure that people can travel with ease. And now, it was revealed in a report of Khaleej Times that the government authority is thinking of expanding its bus network and intercity bus service. This is in response to the demand for public buses to be more integrated with other modes of transport such as Dubai Metro, marine transport, and even the transfer. Here’s more about this transport-related development.
Dubai RTA To Expand Bus Services In Dubai?
The report mentions an announcement made by the Dubai RTA in which they declared that they had received several proposals and ideas from commuters. As a result, they are thinking of extending the city’s bus network and intercity bus services. Yes, the new intercity bus routes could connect Dubai to other Emirates across the UAE. With potential expansion plans for the two bus services, the proposal responds to the growing demand for the public mode of transport. For those who aren’t aware, the Dubai RTA buses have already transported 89.2 million people from January to June this year. This accounted for about 24.5% of the total number of public transport passengers in the first half of the year.
Proposed Plan For Reducing Traffic
They are also thinking of plans for reducing the peak hour traffic. For this purpose, the Dubai RTA suggested that remote and flexible working hour policies be introduced to reduce the traffic on major roads in Dubai by 30 per cent. With two two-hour start windows and remote working for about 4 to 5 work days every month, traffic across Dubai can be reduced by a drastic 30 per cent.

So, if the bus expansion does take place, it is bound to make the Dubai public bus system more comprehensive. As it happens, not too long ago it was also revealed that Dubai has rolled out the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for detecting smoke inside taxis in a pilot run. Yes, through the in-car cameras, it’s worth mentioning that smoking is already banned in public transport across the UAE. At this point, it should be noted that it has also launched a pilot phase of using high-quality air fresheners in over 500 airport taxis.
So, it’s not wrong to say that the authority is truly working and finding ways in which the public can always travel seamlessly.
