Dubai-Sharjah Intersection Bridges: Travel Time Reduction, Budget & More; All You Need To Know

The distance to reach Sharjah from Dubai is approximately 30kms which can be covered within 23-30 mins. The above given time is in accordance with the peak traffic hours. So what if we say the travel time in the near future might get slashed down? Well a recent update by Dubai RTA indicates that a new intersection improvement project might reduce the span between these two Emirates.

Dubai RTA Gives Contract To Build Intersection Bridges

Four bridges, totalling 3,000 metres in length, will be a part of the Garn Al Sabkha Street Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project. It will be capable of supporting 17,600 cars per hour. The project is in accordance with a contract allocated by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The Dh374 million budget was envisioned in pursuance of orders from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Hamdan, Crown Prince of Dubai. The project’s main goal is to keep up with the evolving character of Dubai and take into account the need for urban development and the increasing population.

Time Reduction Due & More About This Project

The project would cut the travel time from 20 minutes during peak hours to just 12 minutes on completion. The vehicles travelling from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in the direction of Al Qusais and Sharjah will enjoy the benefit. Additionally, it would cut the travel time for cars travelling from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Road on the right, towards the Jebel Ali Port, by 70%. Timewise reduction will go from 21 minutes to seven minutes.

The main project involves improving surface crossings on the service road that runs parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The project’s scope also includes 7 km of roadworks, street lighting, traffic signal systems. It also includes rainfall drainage networks and irrigation system networks. Strategic road networks to the east and west will undergo upgradation as part of the RTA’s master plan. These crucial road networks support a variety of construction projects on both sides of the highways. This in turn reinforces Dubai’s transport system and manages both present-day and future traffic loads.

We hope the road network is soon in action.
