It’s hardly a secret that Dubai constantly see news about developments, including but not limited to infrastructure and real estate projects. Recently, Dubai’s transit-oriented development plan (TOD), which is a strategic urban development initiative, was approved by the Supreme Committee for Urban Planning. The meeting convened on Tuesday, March 4, and it aims to optimise the land use around Dubai Metro stations. Here’s all you need to know about it.
Dubai’s Transit-Oriented Development Plan Approved
With the aim of supporting 20 minutes city, TOD plan is to increase the use of the metro and sustainable transport. As revealed by the Dubai Media Office, it aims to increase the use of the metro and allow the residents to meet their daily needs within 20 minutes through different modes of transport. The launch of the master plan for the Saih Al-Salam corridor was also highlighted, which includes the development of five service and recreational stations across the rural areas in Dubai.
It’s worth mentioning that new real estate projects are being approved, and the total value of the projects that are benefiting from the facilitated approval is more than AED55 billion. Not to mention, 450 million ft.² of land has been allocated for citizen housing.

What Does It Entail?
Additionally, there are over 50 master plans and projects that have been reviewed and approved. With the aim of making Dubai a pedestrian-friendly city, landmark projects were approved just the previous year. Called the Dubai Walk, it envisions the development of over 6,500 km of pedestrian path. These are spread across 160 areas, which will, in turn, transform the city into a year-round destination for pedestrians.
As it happens, the key strategies and the projects align with the Dubai 2040 Urban Masterplan, which was also reviewed during the meeting. Moreover, this progress also achieves the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai.
So, with these developments underway, people are bound to realise that the government is truly working hard to ensure that they can live a comfortable life.
