To establish an “open museum of human heritage,” existing communities and structures constructed in Dubai between the 1960s and 1990s will be restored. The second phase of the project aimed at conserving the emirate’s historical architecture was approved, as the Executive Council of Dubai declared.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai stated that by preserving heritage buildings, they hope to foster greater awareness among the populace, locals, and tourists of what has shaped the emirate into the prosperous metropolis it is today. He continued that they must honour their past and preserve their architectural treasures for future generations. The conservation of 35 locations and structures dating from the 1960s to the 1990s is the main goal of the second restoration phase. 71 buildings, 14 historical zones, and 17 archaeological sites from Dubai’s past were included in the first phase.
