5 GCC Updates For You

1. UAE To Allow Seamless Yacht Travel Between Dubai and Abu Dhabi

From 2026, foreign yachts will be able to sail freely between Dubai and Abu Dhabi under a single, mutually recognised permit as mentioned by Travel and Tour. The agreement between Abu Dhabi Maritime and Dubai Maritime Authority removes the need for back-and-forth approvals and local entry-exit formalities. A new digital Early Inquiry System will share vessel, crew, and passenger details in advance. This cuts down on documentation and delays.

2. Michelin Guide Saudi Arabia Plans First-Ever Restaurant Celebration

Saudi Arabia’s dining scene is set to be elevated in 2026. The Michelin Guide Saudi Arabia is set to host its first Restaurant Celebration on February 4, 2026 as per The National. The event will take place at Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh, in partnership with the Culinary Arts Commission. The event will honour 52 standout restaurants from Riyadh, Jeddah, and AlUla that featured in the 2026 guide. Each restaurant will receive an official plaque, alongside live chef demonstrations, curated dishes, and a premium cocktail reception.

3. Filipinos Gather In Thousands For Simbang Gabi Mass

Tens of thousands of Filipinos gathered for Simbang Gabi at Dubai’s St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubai. More than 20,000 worshippers attended the penultimate Mass, part of the nine-day Christmas tradition observed from December 15 to 23 according to a report by Trade Arabia. Led by Paolo Martinelli, the 8 pm outdoor service required large screens across the church complex to accommodate the crowd.

4. Flamingo Restaurant Ordered To Shut For 30 Days

The Ministry of Public Health announced the temporary closure of Flamingo Restaurant for 30 days, effective December 17, 2025. According to Peninsula Qatar, the closure was announced due to violations of Law No. 08 of 1990, which regulates human food safety. Authorities confirmed the decision through an official notice, reinforcing ongoing scrutiny of food standards across the region.
