easyJet Egypt To Manchester Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Athens After Pilot Collapsed Mid-Flight

After a pilot on an easyJet flight from Egypt to Manchester fell, the airline was obliged to make an emergency landing. One of the pilots experienced a medical problem on Saturday night, forcing the plane to be diverted to Athens instead of continuing on its original route from Hurghada to the northern English city.

Passengers Panic On The easyJet Flight

Two hours into the trip, passengers began to suspect something was amiss, and cabin crew members were observed racing to the front of the aircraft as soon as the pilot slumped. After staff members screamed asking for medical professionals, some passengers got up and assisted the cabin crew on the easyJet flight.

Additionally, they stated that the cabin crew called to inform them that the pilot/captain was seeking medical attention after becoming ill and that they would be further informed about the situation. Knowing that it was a pilot and not a passenger, the passengers were starting to get rather worried and anxious. The very hard and dangerous landing was fortunately executed successfully by the co-pilot, allowing paramedics to board the plane and administer treatment.

Some passengers started to panic thinking it was the end as they faced the tumultuous scenes during the landing. An oxygen mask was given to a passenger who started having a panic attack.

After The Emergency Landing

Numerous fire engines, police cars, and ambulances met the crew and passengers when they safely touched down. The passengers went on to say that the co-pilot and cabin crew had been fantastic. Everyone congratulated the pilot once he had finished the landing.  

easyJet confirmed yesterday evening that aircraft EZY2252 from Hurghada to Manchester was rerouted to Athens because the captain needed medical care, according to a company representative. In compliance with conventional operating protocols, the first officer made a routine landing, and paramedics greeted the aircraft when it arrived in Athens.

Passengers continued their journey to Manchester after the subsequent flight was delayed overnight. In order to lessen the impact of the disruption, easyJet flights made every effort to book hotel accommodations and, when feasible, meals.
