The food and safety department of Kerala launched a mobile application named ‘Eat-Right Kerala’ on June 7. The app was successfully launched on the occasion of World Food Safety Day, as the app is a beacon of food safety. It guides people to all the places where they can dine without having to think twice about food safety. The app will soon list more restaurants and hotels.

‘Eat-Right Kerala’ Will Soon Feature More Places

Kerala has been ranked as the top state for maintaining the highest level of food safety. It is the first Indian state to take such an initiative by launching the ‘Eat-Right Kerala’ application. This application will help visitors and residents find places that have been checked for adhering to food safety standards.

The application actually faced a lot of criticism from people for listing only 1,800 establishments. The establishments that pass the hygiene rating standards by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) are added to the application.

A hygiene check is conducted for a charge by FSSAI accredited agencies, and then the restaurants are given ratings. Food safety commissioner V R Vinod said that many more hoteliers are now actually showing a lot of interest in this hygiene rating exercise.

Talking more about hoteliers’ interest in being featured in the ‘Eat-Right Kerala’ application, Vinod disclosed some more points. The Food and Safety Department of Kerala has a scheme where it sponsors audits. This time, it will sponsor audits of almost 4,000 units. About a thousand will conduct the audit on their own.

He said that by the end of the year there will be at least 10,000 units. It has recently begun the new phase of sponsored audits. Targets of completing 100 units each have been given out to food officers in 11 districts.

The app is gaining popularity every single day, and this will surely push more establishments to go for hygiene checks. It will help raise hygiene standards in various establishments.  (As per The New Indian Express)
