The Elephant Express travels along a 70-kilometre track that runs from Dete Station to Ngamo Siding in Hwange National Park. This route takes passengers through diverse landscapes, including open grasslands, teak forests, and wildlife-rich areas. The train journey provides an excellent opportunity for wildlife viewing. Passengers can spot a wide range of animals, including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and various bird species, all within the confines of the national park.
The train’s carriages are designed with open sides and canopied tops, offering an unobstructed view of the surrounding wilderness. This design ensures an immersive and authentic safari experience. On individual coach seats, the train has room for 22 passengers. There is plenty of space for luggage, and for the comfort of the passengers, there is a restroom as well.

The train leaves Ngamo Siding at around 11:00 am and arrives at Dete Siding at 12:00 pm. Next, it departs from Dete around 2 pm and arrives in Ngamo at 4 pm. Throughout the journey, visitors are also given beverages and snacks. Expect a cold beer or gin and tonic if you are on a train in the afternoon. The Elephant Express is often used in conjunction with Imvelo Safari Lodges, offering a complete safari experience. You can stay at the lodges, which are located within Hwange National Park. Embark on game drives and other safari activities during your stay.
