Dubai has many rules and regulations in place for the people. And the aim is to basically ensure their own safety. So, it’s not surprising that the Dubai Metro also has its own set of regulations that are important to follow. Put in place by the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), there are strict rules in place that ensure the commute for people is always smooth and safe. Take a look at them.
Dubai Metro Rules
If you travel by Dubai Metro daily, then there are eight basic rules that you must keep in mind. These are as follows –
- You must avoid running
- Make sure to always keep your child in front of you
- Ensure that you are staying away from the doors
- Ensure that you are considerate of other passenger
- Don’t run towards the train
- Don’t leave your child unattended at any point of time
- Don’t stand at the train doors
- Don’t jump the queue
While the rules of fairly simple, when a person is in a rush, it becomes difficult to abide by even these basic rules. So, you must be aware of the Metro fines that have been put in place to strictly prohibit certain behaviours.
List Of Fines For Violating Rules
Here’s a list of some of these offences:
AED 100 fines come under minor offences and some (not all) of these are as follows –
- Causing disturbance or inconvenience to other passengers is considered as disruptive behaviour.
- If you are found sitting improperly, which means sitting in areas reserved for specific groups, you might have to pay this fine.
- Only guide dogs for the visually impaired are allowed on public transport.
- You are not allowed to rest your feet on the seats or damage or dirty them.
- You cannot open the doors or attempt to board or get out of the train while it’s moving.
AED 200 is a fine that has been declared for moderate offences and some of them are as follows –
- Fare evasion
- Misuse of nol cards, such as showing an invalid card
- Unauthorised sales, which include selling the nol card without any prior approval
- Smoking
- Non-compliance, which means ignoring instructions from inspectors or disrupting their duties
You might even have to pay a fine of AED1000 if you are found carrying hazardous items, entering prohibited zones, or found indulging in track violations. This includes crossing tracks outside the designated areas. Additionally, serious offences can fetch you up to AED2000. This includes the misuse of emergency buttons or the abuse of safety equipment.
So, take note of these basic rules and steer clear of causing any trouble and you won’t have to pay any fine.
