Get ready, globetrotters. Etihad Airways just dropped some intriguing aviation news. Expect nonstop flights from Abu Dhabi to Charlotte, North Carolina. Yes, they are officially on the books, starting May 4, 2026. The capital of the UAE is getting direct access to one of the fastest-growing cities in the US, with the airline rolling out four weekly flights aboard its swanky Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

Etihad Airways Announces New Route To Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte, charmingly dubbed the ‘Queen City,’ will have direct access to Abu Dhabi, thanks to Etihad Airways. From May 2026 it will be added as Etihad’s sixth destination in the United States. It joins a robust line-up including New York, Chicago, Washington, Boston, and the soon-to-launch Atlanta route set for July 2, 2025. The new Charlotte service promises seamless connectivity, comfort, and a massive leap forward for travellers eyeing the US from the Middle East, Asia, or the Indian subcontinent.

Passengers flying the 7,408-mile (11,852km) route can expect two cabin options: business and economy. And yes, there will be plush flatbeds and hearty in-flight meals if you fancy a midair nap or a feast above the clouds. With midday returns and early morning departures from Abu Dhabi, the timing hits that sweet spot for business travellers and holiday-goers alike.

Preclearance Perks And Sky-High Ambitions

Abu Dhabi International Airport offers US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance. That means passengers flying to Charlotte clear American immigration before boarding. Say goodbye to snail-paced queues at the other end. You’ll land in Charlotte as a domestic passenger and breeze through like a local.

This move is more than just a schedule update. It’s a calculated leap. Etihad becomes the first of the ‘Big Three’ Gulf carriers to stake a claim at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT). That’s a win for travellers, tourism, and trade. The Queen City gets a direct link to the UAE, and passengers get better access to Etihad’s vast global network from its Abu Dhabi-Zayed hub.
