Winter perils disrupt various parts of Europe. As the harsh weather continues to worsen in the Central and Northern parts of the continent, many countries are facing disruptions on the road, rail, and flight front. Countries like Germany, the UK, France, Denmark, and Norway had to either temporarily shut down airports, cancel flights, face delays in trains, or experience disturbances on the road due to the extremely icy weather. Many of these regions are also experiencing heavy snowfall and ice build-up.

On Wednesday, the Frankfurt International Airport cancelled more than half of the flights scheduled there. This was due to the freezing weather, possible snowfall, and severe ice build-up in Germany. The weather was so harsh that Germany’s weather services even issued warnings for “extreme black ice” in the southwest region. Furthermore, Deutsche Bahn AG, the rail operators in Germany, have already issued warnings about possible delays and cancellations in the services.

In Oslo, poor visibility and heavy snowfall halted bus services. The city’s airport was also temporarily closed on Wednesday. Not to forget, there were major delays in the train schedules as well. Similarly, heavy snow and rapid strengthening in Denmark led to several accidents and heavy traffic. Rail services in the country were also impacted as the police asked people to work from home till weather conditions became better.

As for France, the country’s weather service issued a warning of black ice in 25 regions and an additional flood warning in three other areas on Thursday. Sweden also issued orange and yellow weather warnings on its west and the east coast.

The UK also experienced its coldest night this season on Wednesday. As of now, a yellow warning is in effect in England and Wales. However, the Met Office of the UK has predicted milder weather to take over the region from Sunday. Similarly, there are reports of temperatures hitting highs of more than 10° C in London, Paris, and Frankfurt in the next week.

While the next week looks promising, the extreme winter weather in Europe right now is quite hard for the people in these countries. We hope the weather clears out soon and life gets back to normal for the locals.
