20 Stray Dogs At Mumbai Airport Get QR-Tagged Aadhaar Cards
In an article recently published by The Times Of India, it was revealed that a total of 20 stray dogs at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or the CSMIA got their Aadhaar cards. These Aadhaar cards also have a QR code on them.
When scanned, the QR code reveals all the information about the dog, its feeder, its vaccination status, as well as its sterilisation status and other medical details. Let’s just hope that the dogs, too, won’t have to run to banks every now and then to link their Aadhaar with their PAN card and phone number!
Now if you know anything about dogs, you know that they don’t have pockets or even a place where they can safely store their important documents. So the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or the BMC garlanded the QR tags around the necks of the dogs! Now that’s a unique piece of jewellery!

Part Of A Creative Initiative
This creative initiative was taken by Akshay Ridlan who is an engineer based out of Sion. The initiative is titled ‘pawfriend.in’ and anybody who has a dog or regularly feeds strays get their furry friends registered.
So if your friend ever gets lost or is separated from you, the data will be helpful in locating it. This particular initiative will also help the BMC maintain a centralised database of all the stray dogs in the city and acquire details about their vaccination, sterilisation and other medical statuses.
An official spokesperson said “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) demonstrates a profound commitment to the safety and well-being of both passengers and community canines within its vicinity. By actively liaisoning with the BMC Veterinary team and compassionate individuals from NGO Pawfriend.in, CSMIA has taken a significant & responsible step towards addressing the welfare of these furry companions by initiating anti-rabies vaccination & sterilisation drive.
Partnering with BMC officials, CSMIA today initiated vaccination of around 15 canines at Terminal 1 and have additionally QR-tagged them for their identification. This proactive approach ensures the safety of passengers and the furry companions in the vicinity while continuing CSMIA’s ongoing efforts to create an environment where the community feels safe to co-exist.”
