A food safety task force inspected eateries in the Narayanaguda and Lakdikapul neighbourhoods of Hyderabad on February 3, 2025. They discovered multiple violations like expired food at Hyderabad’s Hotel Ashoka and Indian Durbar Restaurant. Rotting vegetables, dirty kitchens and foul smells, unfortunately, greeted the task force in these areas of Hyderabad.
Expired Food Found In Hyderabad’s Hotel Ashoka
The Telangana Food Safety Task Force discovered a cockroach infestation along with expired food in the kitchen of Hotel Ashoka. They found and threw away expired food, such as kilograms of sliced chicken (expired in January 2025) and rosemary (expired in September 2023). They also disposed of the decaying cauliflower and brinjal that were discovered on the property. The authorities discovered that this establishment was preparing food using artificial food colouring.
In addition to these problems, they pointed out the untidy state of the kitchen’s floor and walls. There was a foul smell over there, caused by expired food. Additionally, they discovered that some of the containers in the kitchen and outside the refrigerator were rusty. The task force also pointed out that despite more than 140 people working on the premises, there was no supervisor with training in food safety certification. Additionally, according to the inspectors, there was no water analysis data accessible for this restaurant.
Narayanguda’s Indian Durbar Proves To Be No Better
The food safety crew went to Narayanaguda’s Indian Durbar Restaurant that same day. The use of artificial food colouring was noted by the officials, here, too. Among the expired food items, they discovered chilli flakes, various flavour syrups, masala powder, and cumin powder. These were thrown out right away. Numerous hygienic problems were found on the property. There was a severe cockroach infestation in the kitchen, according to the task team. What they discovered were rotten tomatoes, green chillies, and carrots with fungal infestation, which they subsequently disposed of. They observed that food items were stored in the store room with sanitary supplies.
Additionally, it was discovered that boiled eggs were kept near drains without any covering. The preparation and use-by dates were missing from some of the food in the refrigerator. No aprons were worn by anyone working with the food in the kitchen. The officials added that the FBO did not have access to the food handlers’ medical fitness certificates or pest control documents.
