UAE is quite famous for its scorching temperatures. But winter is like a relieving season that brings a blissful climate over the emirates. But the usual foggy conditions throughout the desert nation are quite questionable. The morning fog blankets the entire nation, from the dunes to the skyscrapers. Let’s unfold the secret behind these foggy nights and days in UAE.

Why Does UAE Experience Foggy Nights Despite Being A Desert Nation?

The UAE, a desert nation, has all the components for fog and experiences up to 50 foggy evenings on average annually. Being surrounded by sea, the UAE has a water-vapour-rich environment. Substantial quantities of water vapour are transported inland by the sea wind circulation throughout the day. The moist air brought in from the sea previously during the day combines with the dust and dirt in the air. It then gets trapped and turns into a fog at night. It is this dust that encourages the growth of fog.

What Is Fog And What Types Can Be Found In UAE?

Fog is basically an aerosol or spray of tiny water droplets that float on the surface of the earth. For a better understanding, you can imagine fog to be like a low-lying cloud. In UAE, you can find two types of fog namely, radiation and advection fog. Both are equally dangerous for human health. Radiation fog, which accounts for about 95% of the fog observed in the UAE, is primarily present in the winter rather than the summer.

The remaining 5% of fog is advection fog, which develops over the nearby oceans and drifts across the United Arab Emirates. No matter the kind of fog, it disappears when the sun warms the land in the morning.

Many such foggy conditions had led to fatal incidents like serious road accidents and death in UAE. The thick foggy conditions during winter make police send out alerts to safeguard the UAE Population.

Hence, seeing fog alert notifications on their phone has become a usual phenomenon for Emiratis during winter.
