Sir George Everest, a renowned Welsh surveyor and geographer, served as the Surveyor General of India from 1830 to 1843. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the Great Trigonometric Survey of India, which aimed to map the entire Indian subcontinent with unprecedented precision.

It was from his house in Mussoorie that Sir George Everest conducted much of his work, contributing to the measurement of the world’s highest peak, initially known as Peak XV. In recognition of his invaluable contributions, this peak was later named Mount Everest in his honour.

The George Everest House is strategically located about 6 kilometres from Gandhi Chowk in Mussoorie, making it easily accessible by car or rented taxi. Perched atop a hill, the estate offers panoramic views that are nothing short of spectacular.

To the south lies the lush Doon Valley, a verdant expanse that stretches as far as the eye can see. On the northern side, visitors are greeted with the majestic snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, creating a stunning contrast that will leave anyone in awe.
