When you travel and check into the hotel, one of the most tedious parts of the whole process has to be the check-in. This process can sometimes be a little boring and might even require you to stand in a queue if you are checking in during the peak holiday season. However, you may no longer have to face this as Abu Dhabi is all set to introduce facial recognition technology across its hotels.
Facial Recognition For Check-In Soon In Abu Dhabi?
With the aim of reducing the check-in times for its guests, Abu Dhabi plans to introduce facial recognition technology across its hotels. In fact, it also aims to strengthen identification measures through this simple technology. As revealed in a report by The National, this system for checking in is already in the pilot phase at some hotels. Yes, they are all set for an initial rollout at five-star properties in the city. However, this will not just be in Abu Dhabi city, but also in the Al Ain region and the Al Dhafra region.
To Be Introduced In Phases
Talking about the second phase of the strategy, this will target four-star hotels. Yes, the biometric technology will finally be deployed across all hotels in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Although it’s worth mentioning that no timeframe has so far been given for the introduction of the facial recognition procedures. In case you’re wondering, this major announcement took place at the ongoing Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The scheme is being spearheaded by the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT) and the Federal Authority of Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP).
This development comes after it was announced by Abu Dhabi in April that it has plans to invest over $10 billion in infrastructure. It is a part of the new strategy to boost international visitor numbers and even cultural activities in the emirate. For those who aren’t aware, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Strategy 2030 plans to create 1,78,000 new jobs in the emirate.
How Will It Work?
But the next question that arises is, how does this technology work at hotels? Well, this is a high-tech verification process. It will be available as proof of identification, not just for the guests but even for hotel employees in the emirate. For this purpose, the DCT Abu Dhabi will provide technical and training support towards its hotels. It is going to streamline the entire process of check-in and check-out at the hotels. The system will capture and analyse the biometric data that the guest will provide during the check-in. After this, the data will be safely encrypted and will be retrieved from the ICP. In fact, it will be transmitted to the centralised database that will be managed by DCT Abu Dhabi.
This is truly a big development as the airports are already using the technology. So, with the introduction of this check-in process, it is bound to become a lot easier for the people holidaying in Abu Dhabi.
