And not just Hollywood, but the Middle Eastern film industry is also gaining a lot of attention for its well-meaning and deep storyline. And now, there are plans to build a multi-million dollar film city in Oman. Here’s all about it!
Oman To Have Its Own Film City?
With a significant boost to the cultural and creative sectors of Oman, the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Youth has unveiled its plans to establish a state-of-the-art film city. This project is expected to draw an investment of OMR 12 million! The initiative is the outcome of a creative and cultural workshop that was held back in the month of March. This workshop focused on enhancing the sultanate’s cultural and innovative industries as reported by Oman Observer. Talking about the film city project, the Gulf Business revealed that it will be located in Khazaen, Barka.

All You Need To Know About The Project
With the vision of becoming the leading regional centre for production, the aim is to generate substantial employment opportunities. In fact, there are also plans to create more than a hundred jobs for Omani and its first year. Once complete, this facility will offer a comprehensive range of services. Yes, this will include everything from preproduction to postproduction. Thereby positioning the sultanate as a key player in the entertainment industry of the region.
At this point, note that this development comes after the announcement of other initiatives:
- Ebda Park is a creative park in Muscat that is designed to celebrate and showcase Omani talent and will be built with an investment of OMR 2.2 million.
- Yaj Project in collaboration with the talent company will focus on attracting international conferences and exhibitions to Oman and will be built with an investment of OMR 1.1 million.
It’s worth mentioning that sustainability in filmmaking is also being introduced as this includes the reduction of carbon trail during production with the use of renewable energy, and minimising the waste levels on the set. And it is bound to meet the universal sustainability stand as revealed by the national.
So, with the new film city, Oman will be able to harness the opportunities from film production houses around the world.
