Massive Fire Breaks Out At Varanasi Cantt Railway Station
On Friday night, at least 200 bikes were charred after a massive fire broke out at the Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. While the fire caused widespread damage, no injuries were reported. According to NDTV, at least 12 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot to control the raging flames. Teams of Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police also rushed to the spot to help douse the fire as well.
The fire broke out at around 1:30 AM and it took almost two hours for the fire department to control the raging flames. Visuals circulating on social media showed massive flames and thick plumes of smoke engulfing the parking area of the Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. The dense smoke reduced visibility and made it quite difficult for the firefighters to see ahead. As per reports, most of the two-wheelers that were burnt in the fire incident belonged to railway employees.
What The Preliminary Investigation Indicates
While talking to NDTV, CO GRP Kunwar Bahadur Singh said that the cause of the fire was a short circuit. Some reports suggest that a short circuit first occurred around 10:30 PM on Friday. Electricity workers were able to fix it. However, another short circuit occurred a few hours later and triggered the fire. Investigation is underway to know more about this fire incident at Varanasi Cantt Railway Station.
This fire accident has raised concerns over safety measures around railway stations. Some reports even pointed out that if the railway station had its fire station, then the fire would have been contained earlier.
