Just when you think that you might be free from the clutches of the coronavirus, a novel variant emerges and shatters that thought. These new variants of COVID-19 conjure up images of the mythical beast Hydra which is famed to grow two heads in place of one that’s severed. Each time you defeat one variant, a few new ones emerge. Maharashtra has been witnessing a rise in COVID-19 cases lately. Here are some details that you need to know about it.
New Variant Of COVID-19 In Maharashtra
Fever cases in Maharashtra are rising steadily. According to an article recently published by The Times of India or TOI, there is a new subvariant of the coronavirus called EG.5.1. The virus has been detected in Maharashtra as well as in the United Kingdom or the UK.
It is a COVID-19-causing SARS-CoV-2 virus. The symptoms are a lot like those of influenza. According to a national survey which was recently conducted, many households had at least one or more members sick with influenza-like symptoms.
The symptoms may be severe but many reports suggest that they do not warrant hospitalisation. The surge in sickness and viral fevers may also be a result of the changing weather. As the monsoon season is impacting the country quite strongly, health may have been impacted.

16 Per Cent Households Witness Flu-Like Symptoms
TOI cited a survey conducted on 20,000 people by Local Circles, which is a community social media platform. The findings of the survey showed that there has been a 16 per cent increase in the number of fevers with flu-like symptoms in Maharashtra.
In addition to this, 21 per cent of households in Delhi have one or more members with flu-like symptoms. Karnataka reported a whopping 33 per cent of households with members who are similarly affected.
The article also mentioned that in March, the Union Government stated that the national surge in fever was caused by viruses from influenza A and B families.
