Travelling is something that has come a long way from horse-driven carts and steamships. And even now, there are constant innovations that are being introduced in the sector for faster movement. So, it’s safe to assume that soon we might see a shift in the way people travel and some of the futuristic concepts from our favourite sci-fi movies might just become a reality. 1. Fewer Lost Luggage With Tracking Devices

When we’re travelling there’s always this nagging fear at the back of our heads, wondering if our bag will arrive at the destination safely, without getting lost in the sea of luggage. But with the introduction of systems like SmartTags, Tile Pros, and AirTags, chances of losing one’s belongings can soon be a thing of the past. And truth be told, it’s relieving!

2. Coming Soon, Flying Taxis

We have all been guilty of watching Sci-fi movies with flying cars wondering when will it become a reality. And now, it seems that this might soon happen, as flying taxis are something companies across the world are researching. As it happens, Dubai’s already planning on being the first country to offer flying taxis by 2026. Recently, the country made waves with this news, and as of now, it is expected to begin operations from four major vertical ports – Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, and Dubai Downtown.

3. Driverless Public Transport

It was only recently that Dubai announced its driverless abras on the Dubai Creek. But it’s just Dubai, but around the world, where countries are inching towards driverless transport systems. An example of this can be seen in the form of robotaxis by Waymo, Alphabet Inc. in LA. While currently there are drivers as backups in these taxis, (In the test phase) soon the plan involves pulling them out.

4. Airport Queue Coming To An End?

As the world moves towards facial recognition, similar technology is being used at airports to reduce lines. An example of this is Dubai International Airport, where biometric “Smart Gates” have been introduced which use facial recognition to verify travellers’ identities. If similar technologies are going to be introduced around the world, chances are that airport queues might soon become history.

5. Eco-Friendly Hotels

Eco-friendly hotels are certainly the need of the hour. With there being greater emphasis than ever on zero waste and human contribution to harming the environment, there are several eco-friendly hotels coming up. A good example of this could be Six Senses Svart in Norway, which aims to be the world’s first energy-positive hotel when it flings its doors open in 2024!

6. Space Tourism In The Near Future?

Space tourism is something that’s been in talks for years now. However, it could happen now as early as 2023! Yes, with SpaceX by Elon Musk already launching commercial orbits around the Earth or even for a mission to the International Space Centre, this could be here soon. In fact, there are plans afoot to take civilians like businessmen, artists, and athletes for the first civilian mission around the moon in 2023.

It’s no secret that during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world had come to a standstill, augmented reality became an alternative. The next best alternative, that allowed people to get some semblance of the experience that they wish they’d be having in real life. And so, it’s not far-fetched to think that this may soon become a great way for tourists to explore a location before they decide to book tickets. While nothing can take the place of experiencing things in reality, such technology, if successfully developed might just change the way people travel!
