Why Has Amul Increased Milk Prices By ₹2 Per Litre?

The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells dairy products under the Amul brand, has declared a price revision for its fresh milk products. Read on to know more.

Amul Milk To Increase Price From May 14th

As per reports by NDTV, starting May 14, milk prices will rise by ₹2 per litre across all major markets in India. This modification translates to a percentage increase of roughly 2.5% to 3.5%, a figure the federation notes remains below the typical food inflation rate. This action marks the first price hike for Amul milk since May 2025. According to the GCMMF, the revised version is prompted due to the rise in the overall cost of operations and milk production. Over the past year, there has been a significant increase in the costs of packaging film, fuel and cattle feed.

Members of unions have already raised the prices paid to farmers by around 3.7% during this period to help make up for these rising expenses. Additionally, Amul passes on an important portion of its revenue to producers. Around 80 paise of every rupee spent by consumers for milk is channelled back to the milk producers.

The Price Revision Impacts Major Variants

The federation highlighted that the lion’s share of this current price increase will be distributed directly to its 3.6 million milk producers, supplying them with the necessary incentive to sustain and expand milk production despite the challenges

This price revision impacts major popular variants – like Amul Taaza, Amul Gold, Amul Shakti, and Amul Tea Special. Under the new pricing framework, Amul Taaza will be priced at ₹29 for a 500 ml pack and ₹57 for 1 litre, while Amul Gold 500 ml will cost ₹35. Additionally, Amul Shakti 500 ml will be available for ₹32, the 1-litre Amul Tea Special pack will increase to ₹66, and buffalo milk 500 ml has been updated to ₹39. The decision comes due to rising operational costs, especially for cattle feed, packaging materials and fuel.
