France is grappling with the adverse effects of drought, which are taking a toll on the water sporting business in the country. The scarcity of water caused by the prolonged dry spell is impacting various water-related activities. For example, kayaking, paddle boating etc.

But now, after experiencing a prolonged drought last summer, followed by another one in the winter, the once dry lakebeds have now been filled with ample water. Dams are consistently releasing water into the reservoirs, ensuring enough water for various activities in the lakes, reported Hindustan Times.

Despite these positive developments, tour operators are still cautious and unsure about the current situation. Nature enthusiasts have long been captivated by the construction of three reservoir lakes in the mid-20th century. The Serre Ponçon, Castillon, and Sainte-Croix. These lakes gained attention for their crystal-clear waters, nestled in untouched valleys and surrounded by majestic mountains.

Annually, the region attracts over 4.6 million visitors, with a substantial number flocking to the lakes during the summer months, as per Hindustan Times reports.

But, this year, as the country faces extreme drought challenges, these numbers stand to witness a sharp decline. And it goes without saying that in a country facing drought, water sports influx is least on the priority list.

But what we may fail to notice is how this could potentially affect the country’s tourism numbers. With no close to no water-based activities during summer and spring, tourism in France may see a decline.

Man-made climate change has significant impacts on France, affecting various aspects of its environment and society. Rising temperatures have led to more frequent and intense heat waves, posing risks to public health and agriculture. The country has experienced changes in precipitation patterns, with some regions facing increased droughts.
