10 Friends Team Up With Mumbai Police To Bust Dating Scam At An Andheri Cafe

Dating scams on platforms like Tinder have become increasingly common in recent times. While many choose to stay silent and move on, some have friends who refuse to let it slide. That’s exactly what happened when a Mumbai man was duped of ₹15,000 on a date. His friends stepped in, teamed up with Mumbai Police, and set up a decoy at Heaven Terrace 72 in Andheri, and what happened next is something you don’t want to miss!

Friends & Mumbai Police Crack A Tinder Date Scam In Mumbai

What started as a seemingly harmless Tinder date soon turned into a costly lesson for one Mumbai man, who was duped of ₹15,000 during a date. Instead of letting it go, his friends decided to take matters into their own hands. According to Mid-Day, 10 of them created profiles on the dating app to track down the accused.

Teaming up with Mumbai Police, they set a trap, sending one friend on a date with a woman allegedly linked to the gang, using the meetup as a decoy to expose the scam. The plan ultimately led to Mumbai Police raiding Heaven Terrace 72 café in Sakinaka, Andheri East, resulting in the arrest of eight people involved in the racket on March 13. Notably, this was the same cafe where the man was initially duped.

8 People Arrested In The Ordeal

As per the Mid-Day report, during the date, the woman ordered about six tequila shots in less than an hour. When the bill arrived, the man discovered that the amount was ₹18,616! The man immediately alerted DCP Datta Nalawade, who was leading the operation. The Sakinaka police raided Heaven Terrace 72 and the honeytrap scam came to light.

Police revealed that victims who refused to pay the exorbitant bills at the end of these dates were threatened by cafe staff and bouncers. In some cases, they were warned they would be falsely implicated in sexual assault cases, forcing many to pay up.

Eight people were arrested from Heaven Terrace 72 cafe in Andheri and they were booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 316(4), 308(2), 352, 3(5), and the Information Technology Act.
