Mangrove jungles in Cambodia are nothing less than preserved treasures to discover a wide array of different species of wildlife. Rich in flora and fauna, Cambodian mangroves surprised a team of biologists with the huge numbers of species found. A recent biodiversity survey conducted in a mangrove jungle in Cambodia unveiled the presence of hundreds of wildlife species. To know more about the research and findings, read on.
The Survey Identified Different Species Of Bats, Birds & More As The Forest’s Residents
The research was organised at the Peam Krasop sanctuary. The recently conducted biodiversity survey shed light on the huge numbers of species of wildlife living in these habitats in Cambodia. The biologists discovered about 700 species of wildlife in these mangrove forests, according to a report by The Times of India. The findings are indeed one-of-a-kind and surprising for the researchers, to say the least.
Fauna & Flora International sponsored this biodiversity survey in the mangrove jungles in Cambodia, according to a report by The Guardian. It unveiled the presence of more than hundreds of species of birds, insects, bats, and fishes. The biologists identified a wide range of species such as smooth-coated otters, fishing cats, hairy-nosed otters, young barracuda, large-spotted civets, long-tailed macaques, and a lot more in this biodiversity survey.
The research resulted in the findings of young barracudas, snappers, and groupers in the water. This shows that these places are significant for breeding different types of fish, commercial fishing purposes, and also for local people.

There Is More To The Cambodian Mangrove Forests!
Stefanie Rog led the group of scientists responsible for this survey at the Peam Krasop sanctuary in Cambodia. She revealed about finding 700 species in the mangrove jungles and added that these discoveries are just the beginning and there is much more to explore in this rich biodiversity. Stefanie stated how they could have found 10 times more of the discovered species if they had gone much deeper.
