After a State Visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Egypt for an official visit. After a six-day trip to the US and Egypt, he flew back to India on Sunday night. Besides meeting with officials and signing important deals, he visited certain monuments and places that showcase cultural heritage. Here are highlights of PM Modi’s trip to Egypt.

PM Modi’s Trip To Egypt

In Cairo, Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed an agreement aimed at strengthening the bilateral collaboration on critical issues, capping off his two-day visit to Egypt. He then left for New Delhi.

1. Welcomed By Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly

During his visit, he was welcomed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The Indian Prime Minister stated that he looked forward to meeting President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and strengthening Egypt-India ties. He was then greeted by the Indian diaspora in Egypt.

2. Meeting With Grand Mufti Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam

PM Modi met with Egypt’s top cabinet ministers, including Mostafa Madbouly, to start the first day of his visit. They discussed strengthening the strategic partnership and enlarging business relations. Additionally, he came to know the local Indian diaspora and Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam.

3. Visiting The Al-Hakim Mosque

In addition to this, he met prominent yoga practitioners and instructors from Egypt, Reem Jabak and Nada Adel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Cairo’s 1,000-year-old Al-Hakim Mosque in the 11th century. The Mosque has unique significance because the Dawoodi Bohra community of India assisted in its restoration.

4. Visiting The Heliopolis War Cemetery

The prime minister paid respect to the Indian soldiers who had died fighting for the British Army in Egypt during World War I by visiting the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Cemetery. In a tweet, he wrote that he was paying tribute to the Indian soldiers who fought in World War 1 with valour and courage.

5. PM Modi Received The Highest State Honour

He was also given the Order of the Nile, the highest state honour. It was bestowed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Prime Minister Narendra even shared a few glimpses of the magnificent pyramids of Egypt!

According to a report by the Deccan Herald, the two leaders’ meeting covered ways to improve bilateral ties in a variety of fields.
