Travelling should be fun, not stressful. But for people of determination (POD), the airport experience can be overwhelming. From sign language interpreters to autism-friendly routes, DXB International and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International (DWC) are taking inclusivity to new heights.

Sign Language Support Takes Flight With Video Calls & More At Dubai Airport

Dubai Airports has taken a major leap in enhancing the airport experience for travellers with hearing disabilities. Thanks to their collaboration with the Sanad Relay Centre, passengers can now connect with sign language specialists via video calls. This service bridges communication gaps and makes navigation smoother. Imagine no more struggling with unclear announcements or missed instructions, just clear, real-time help at your fingertips.

Additionally, this new service complements other POD-focused initiatives at Dubai’s airports, like priority lanes for discreetly identified guests with hidden disabilities. The Sunflower Lanyard programme, for instance, has already been making waves by offering a subtle way for POD travellers to access these extra services without feeling singled out.

In an exciting collaboration with the Community Development Authority (CDA), Dubai Airports plans to host a joint calendar of free events for POD. This isn’t just about parties and social gatherings, these events focus on improving airport accessibility and supporting inclusivity. Imagine expert-led sessions aimed at refining airport design to accommodate all kinds of disabilities. Even the staff are getting in on it, with over 33,000 employees undergoing training to assist passengers with visible and non-visible disabilities.

And let’s not forget the DXB Autism Project, which is now getting a boost thanks to this partnership. Free parking, dedicated taxis, and specialised wheelchair services are already in place, but the future looks even brighter with more initiatives on the horizon.
